THE TALIBAN WILL ATTEND A UN CLIMATE CONFERENCE FOR THE 1ST TIME

The Taliban will attend the COP29 climate conference in Azerbaijan for the first time since taking control of Afghanistan in 2021. The country's National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) confirmed that a technical delegation will participate, aiming to strengthen international cooperation on environmental issues, secure funding for climate change initiatives, and discuss adaptation and mitigation strategies. Climate change has significantly impacted Afghanistan, causing higher temperatures, droughts, and reduced water resources, which in turn affect agriculture and food security. Afghanistan is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change, with 25 of its 34 provinces facing severe droughts. Experts hope the conference will help Afghanistan secure international support and improve its climate response.
