The rules of the United States Bar Association were adopted on 21 August 1878 and, as revised on 21 July 1971, remain in force to this day.
The internal rules of the American Bar Association were adopted on 20 August 1879 and have been in force since their recodification on 21 July 1971, The Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives were adopted on 5 January 1937 and amended on 11 August 1969, 21 July 1971 and 11 August 1982, 11 August 1969, 21 July 1971, 11 August 1982, and 10 August 1994, respectively, as amended and in force.
Since its inaugural meeting, the American Bar Association has played a major role in the development of the legal profession in the United States.
